Guide
Conversation starters in Farsi
A first message in Persian can feel warm and personal, even if your Farsi is rusty. Here are openers for every level.
Simple and friendly
- سلام! حالت چطوره؟ · Salam! Halet chetoreh? · Hi! How are you?
- عکس سومت خیلی قشنگه، کجاست؟ · Akse sevvomet kheili ghashangeh, kojast? · Your third photo is lovely, where is it?
- تو هم تهدیگ رو بیشتر از خود غذا دوست داری؟ · To ham tahdig ro bishtar az khod-e ghaza doost dari? · Do you also like the tahdig more than the rice?
A little playful
- اگه الان دور دور میکردیم، چه آهنگی میذاشتی؟ · If we were doing dor dor right now, what song would you put on?
- چای یا قهوه؟ جواب اشتباه نداره... تقریباً. · Tea or coffee? There is no wrong answer. Almost.
For heritage speakers
If you understand more than you speak, say so: Farsim kheili khoob nist, vali dooset daram yad begiram, my Farsi is not great but I would like to learn. Most people find that charming. Switching to English halfway is completely normal.
What to avoid
Do not open with a compliment about a body, do not ask for a phone number in the first message, and never ask for money or send it. Keep the chat in the app until you have met.
Dor Dor is a dating app for Persians living outside Iran, in Persian and English, with every photo checked by a person. What Dor Dor is.
